Strengthening the Educator Workforce through Human Alignment

Purpose:

  • Convene HCMS Alignment Team
  • Familiarize team with HCMS alignment
  • Determine educator competencies

Directions:

  1. Read Strengthening the Educator Workforce Through Human Resource Alignment.
  2. Refer to your grant program logic model as you and your team read the paper.
  3. Convene HCMS Alignment Team (page 4).
  4. With the HCMS Alignment Team, determine at least six key educator competencies (page 7). Do this for each educator type in your grant program (teacher, principal, school staff, etc.) Example sources:
    1. Practice rubric competencies
    2. Professional standards
    3. State standards
    4. District competencies

Reflection Questions:

  1. How developed is your current HCMS, even if you don’t call it an HCMS right now?
  2. How will you engage the teacher and/or principal unions in determining competencies and their alignment to HCMS categories?
  3. Who else needs to be involved in this work?
  4. Why is it important to identify educator competencies?
  1. Engage additional educators in a discussion about what key competencies are or should be for each educator type.
  2. Integrate educator feedback and refine competencies.
  3. Use the Horizontal and Vertical Alignment Assessment provided in the next resource to perform a vertical and horizontal alignment assessment of competencies to HCMS practices.
