Understanding Partnership Types

Details:

  • Resource Type: Video or blog post
  • Estimated time: 1 team meeting

Purpose:

Identify characteristics of partnership types
Consider where and when different types of partnerships are appropriate in EED grant works

Directions:

  1. Review the 15-minute video “Understanding Partnership Types” or the blog post “Partnerships, A Critical Aspect of Sustainability” with your sustainability planning team. (The video is particularly helpful because it includes examples.) This task could also be assigned as prework to a meeting.

Reflection Questions:

  1. What are key differences between limited, coordinated, and collaborative partnerships?
  2. Why is it helpful to categorize partnerships into different types?
  3. What about these examples or partnership types resonates with you?
  4. What type(s) of partnership(s) do you need to achieve your grant goals?
  5. Who are your collaborative partners, or where would your work benefit for a more collaborative partnership?
  1. If you have identified a collaborative partnership that needs to be strengthened, conduct the Moving Towards a Collaborative Partnership: A Self-Assessment on your own and then with your partner(s). Engage in discussion about where each party currently views the partnership.
  2. Discuss with your collaborative partner(s): What are the strengths of the current partnership? What are next steps that need to occur.
  3. In a meeting with your partner(s), identify 2-3 actions you will take to strengthen the partnership. Make a plan to hold each other accountable and revisit progress regularly.
